CATEGORY: Needy in Egypt

On February 20, 2017, Egypt’s Islamic State affiliate, which is based in the Sinai Peninsula,
released a video promising more attacks on Egyptian Christians whom they called their
“favorite prey.” A wave of Coptic persecution soon followed the week after resulting in 7
martyred, one of whom was burned alive after his father was shot dead. Hundreds of Coptic
Christians have fled El Arish in Egypt’s North Sinai after receiving threats and the increased
number of attacks by ISIS-affiliated militants against Christians. Under the auspices of H.G.
Bishop Youssef, H.O.P.E. has opened a relief fund to help the families of those martyred and
to help resettle those who have fled their homes.
